Dead on the inside
Last night the most politically sincere of my fellow squatters returned to tell us that for the sake of the suffering people of Palestine he'd just helped occupy the administrative offices of his provincial university. Their "occupation" would continue until the university put out a statement unequivically condemning Israel's actions in Gaza.
I laughed and said I thought such a statement might not in itself change the Israeli government's path, and was possibly an assault on academic freedom. Would they agree to other groups forcing their university to put out political statements to which they were fiercely opposed? And anyway, their political views were just a badge of youthful identity - where was their concern for so many other awful situations in the world, why settle on this one, and would they really still pretend to care about it in ten years time?
At this the delicately pretty vegan girl by his side ("We spend a lot of time debating whether it's okay to eat honey") told me I was dead on the inside, and they left the room together.

I know I speak for the whole forum when I agree that it's quite offensive to push a university into issuing statements on behalf of everyone in support of one group's opinions.
On the other hand, if they feel some passion for the issue of peace in the mideast, more power to them. I probably wouldn't harsh on them for their politics. As for the "mesmerizingly pretty", comment, I think I again speak for the whole forum when I say we really need pictures to verify these sorts of assertions. Glad to see these updates coming so regularly. Keep up the good work. |

I am going to occupy the forum until it issues a statement unequivically condemning Noel Edmonds.
